Welcome to my website! I'm Lucy, an artist living and working in Derbyshire, UK. I love painting a variety of subject matters in oils and acrylics, from portraits to water droplets, and in 2024 ventured into the world of Live Wedding Painting.

Art Journey

From a young age I have always enjoyed creating things, from knitting with my granny to woodwork with my dad. I started drawing and painting more throughout secondary school, and was surprised to realise that I could draw/paint something that looked pretty realistic. I completed a Foundation Diploma in Art and Design at Derby College after my A-Levels in 2013, which allowed me to develop my creativity and experiment with techniques such as linocut printing, mixed media and photography.

I went on to complete a BSc in Geology at Durham University, and an MSc in Engineering Geology at the University of Leeds. I loved my time at St Chad's College in Durham, and every year was part of the 'mini dec' team, a small team of students who created artwork to transform the college for the themed annual Candlemas Ball.

Alongside my day job as an Engineering Geologist, I taught myself how to oil paint in 2019 and fell in love with it, having predominantly painted in acrylic prior to this. I was regularly painting and completing commissions in the evenings, and in 2024 decided to take a career break to focus on art full time.

I am generally inspired by people and nature, and as a result paint a wide variety of subject matters! I am drawn to interesting colours, patterns, reflections or simply the beauty of a scene.

Other interests

Aside from art, I am a keen triathlete and completed a Half IRONMAN Triathlon in September 2023. I also enjoy playing the piano, knitting and sewing.
