Painting from Life

In 2024 I joined Derby Sketching Club. They hold weekly life drawing and portrait painting sessions, where we get the opportunity to paint models from life over the course of a couple of hours. This is great for practicing portrait painting and capturing a likeness but is very challenging! I generally do not start with a drawing, and just paint the shapes I see in front of me, resulting in a painting that is a bit 'looser' than what I paint from photos.
